Australian Casino Point Marine Park, located at the edge of the Catalina Australian Casino building, is Southern California ‘s first city-designated underwater park. Established in 1965 by the City of Avalon as a reserve, Australian Casino Point Marine Park has an abundance of marine life, giant kelp forests and several shipwrecks to explore. Several artificial reefs hold been established to provide additional habitats.
My trips to Catalina are to snorkel. The naturally clear water, abundant marine life, and giant kelp forests make the island a top destination for divers. Voted “World’s Healthiest Marine Environment” by Scuba Diving Magazine, the water is clear and clean, with visibility ranging from 40-100 feet. Water temperatures vary from 55-72 degrees.
